Attention all sweet-toothed candy lovers! You are in good company – who doesn’t love a delicious piece of chewy Halloween candy? Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. You can see the excitement on the faces of each of the children as they proudly tell you about their costume and ask for a sweet treat when they come to your door. However, there are some legitimate concerns about mixing hard, chewy candies with braces. The adhesives that are used to apply braces to your teeth are designed to be strong enough to hold up against chewing most foods, but not so strong that when it is time to remove the braces it causes damage to your teeth. Therefore, the bond strength of the adhesive is intentionally weakened slightly to prevent problems during removal. This is the reason you have to avoid hard, chewy foods while going through orthodontic treatment. Softer candies such as chocolates generally are no problem at all as long as you brush and floss after you are done eating.
At Budd Orthodontics we want to help you have a fun and safe Halloween this year and keep your braces from getting broken. So we are excited to announce that we will pay you $1.00 per pound of Halloween candy that you bring to our office. Patients, friends and neighbors are all welcome to participate in this event. You can bring the candy to our North office location (4045 E. Bell Rd. #109) on November 4th, 5th, 6th, 11th, and 13th – or the South office location (4444 N. 32nd St. #210) on November 3rd, 10th, and 14th during regular business hours.
Your candy will be donated to St. Vincent De Paul Food Bank. Happy Halloween from Budd Orthodontics!
